Events 2008
  • 29 March- 4 April  2008: The exhibition 'The scientific work of women engineers' took place at a renovated old industrial building in the Technopolis (old gas installations) of Athens. About 100 engineers of all disciplines, exposed posters with their prototype works. The exhibition had the support of the Mayor of the city of Athens and was funding by Greek Ministry of Occupation. It has to be mentioned that at the exhibition participated women engineers from all the parts of Greece and not only from Athens.  For the occasion of the exhibition a special edited book with the presented works was published by EDEM. These actions are funding by the national project "Occupational Reinforcement Actions with the Active Participation of Non-Government Bodies (NGO)".
  • 14 May 2008:  EDEM participated with oral presentation at the students' one week conference "On the way to improve the quality in engineering education". The seminar was organized by the Athens Local Group of the Board of European Students of Technology with the support of National Technical University of Athens. The participants were female and male students of engineering from different European countries and from Canada. EDEM presentation with title 'Women in engineering field' which mentioned stereotypes in engineering studies and work environment created strong discussions between students. The students' conclusions will be presented during future events of EDEM.

  • 24-25 May 2008: The national workshop for the WOMENTOR project 'EUROPEAN FEDERATION of MENTORS for GIRLS and YOUNG WOMEN'  will take place in Athens. Women professors, entrepreneurs, teachers and young students are invited to participate. The coordinator on behalf of the leader organization will attend the workshop.

  • 30 May 2008: The official presentation of the book 'The scientific work of women engineers' was held in Marousi (a suburb of Athens) under the auspices of the local Minicipality. Selected works of the ones including in the book were presented by their designers.

  • 15-18 October 2008: EDEM participated in the final International meeting of the project WOMENTOR held in Graz, with 3 members of EDEM, Betty Rouni, the International Affairs' Responsible, Julia Kostaki, an experienced woman architect trained as mentor for women and Maria Lorentzou, a woman engineer and mentor to be. The meeting was very interesting, full of discussions about mentoring, target groups, good practices and tools. We had the opportunity to meet the other partners of the project and hear their experience and problems. The meeting was successful: the European Federation for girls and women was established the last day and the statutes were confirmed with the agreement of all the partners.
